Meal Plan Policies

All first-year students living in University Housing are bound by a mandatory minimum Traditional Meal Plan requirement through the end of the Summer 1 term based on their housing assignment. All continuing students (second-year and above) living in meal plan required housing must be enrolled in a mandatory minimum Traditional Meal Plan. Please review meal plan required housing for more information on specific requirements. All required students will be automatically enrolled in a meal plan and may upgrade or change as permitted by their class year and housing assignment prior to the semester deadline. Meal plan required minimums are mandatory regardless of student status or co-op status. All other full-time students are eligible to purchase a Traditional or Community Meal Plan of their choosing.

Deadlines

  • All deadlines are non-negotiable. Every student must abide by the deadlines set forth by Northeastern University. There are no exceptions unless a student is withdrawn or takes a medical leave of absence through the University, or their meal plan required status changes.
  • Changes to meal plans can be made through the Meal Plan Online portal through the Student Hub within the designated deadline dates. Adjustments and cancellations will be effective at the time of the change.
  • Meal plan required students may not alter their meal plan after the term deadline.
  • Non-required students may add a meal plan at any time. Please note there is no proration, and selections made after the deadline cannot be altered.
  • Nonrefundable Community Meal Plans cannot be dropped or reduced once purchased.

Refunds

  • Refunds may be available for students who receive a change of meal plan requirement status, or take an approved leave or withdrawal from the University.
  • Refunds are issued at the discretion of the University and will be based on status date and usage. Access to meals incur a daily rate regardless of usage, and Dining Dollars are based on usage.
  • Meal plans are not pro-rated. Plans changed will be refunded in full for the old plan and a new full charge for the new plan will  be applied. Meals used on the old plan will be reflected in the starting balance of the new plan. Exceeding meals or Dining Dollars allocated to your new plan prior to changing may result in additional charges above posted rates.
  • Refunds for meal plans will be issued back to the Student Account at Student Financial Services and will first apply to any balance owed to the University. For accounts paid in full, refunds will be issued back to the student at the discretion of Student Financial Services.
