Photo Guidelines

In order to submit a photo for your Northeastern University Husky Card, you must adhere to the following requirements below. Your picture will not be accepted if it does not meet these standards. Your Husky Card is an official form of identification. Your photo should be similar to a passport or driver’s license photo. Photos may also be taken in-person when you arrive on campus.
- Photo must have a solid white background.
- Photo should be cropped to include the top of your head to the top of your shoulders(head-shot).
- Photo should be no more than 300 pixels x 300 pixels. Larger files will not upload.
- Photo must be saved as a .jpg file. Other formats will not upload to our system.
- Photo must be an original file. Scans and photographs of printed photos or photos on a digital screen are not permitted.
- Photo must be in color and well lit.
- Photo must be of you and only you, with a face forward view looking at the camera.
- Photo must have a neutral or smiling facial expression, both eyes open with no hand gestures.
- No hats or head coverings are allowed (unless for religious purposes). Head covering should also be worn in your government-issued photo ID for acceptance.
- Face coverings are not permitted. All facial features including eyes, nose, mouth, and chin must be fully visible.
- No filters, photo-shopping, AI generated or edited photos, or any retouching may be applied to the photo. Digitally altered photos which do not match your government-issued photo ID will be rejected.
- Glasses may be worn as long as there is no glare and your eyes can be seen.
- A shirt must be worn in the photo.
- No photo proofs or watermarked images, including time/date stamps.
- Your photo will be viewed by University officials so please choose a sensible photo. If your uploaded photo does not match your current appearance or the appearance on your government-issued photo ID, Husky Card Services may require a re-take in the office.
In order to upload your own photo for your Husky Card, a government-issued photo ID must also be provided via our online portal. Please see below for a full list of acceptable identification:
- Driver’s License or Real ID
- Non-Driver ID
- U.S. Passport Book or Passport Card
- Foreign Passport
- U.S. Military ID Card or Dependent Card
- Tribal ID Card
Other identification may be accepted at the discretion of Husky Card Services staff provided they show the full legal name, date of birth, and a current photo. Patrons without acceptable identification will need to verify their identity in person and have a photo taken on-site. Identification documents that utilize altered images may be rejected at the discretion of staff.
